About this exam family

Government finance starts with authority: who may raise money, who may authorize its use, and who must account for the result. From there, the accounting depends on the government and the question being answered. A state general fund emphasizes resources available for current spending, while government-wide statements show longer-term assets and obligations. Federal reporting also connects budget authority and obligations to accrual-based costs. This guide follows those relationships across the three CGFM examinations. You will work through classifications, entries, reconciliations, financing choices, controls, performance measures, and audit findings. The examples use stated facts so you can practice reaching a conclusion, including when a transaction has a different budgetary and financial reporting effect.
