About this exam family
The Chartered Market Technician program builds from identifying technical concepts to applying them and then combining them in a defensible market analysis. At Level I, learn what a chart represents, how trends and patterns are described, and why investor behavior can affect price. At Level II, test competing interpretations: a breakout can look convincing while breadth weakens, or a trading rule can look profitable because its parameters were fitted to old data. At Level III, connect the evidence to a position decision, including an entry, a reason the idea would fail, position size, and a plan for changing conditions. The concepts below follow those three stages. Each example uses stated assumptions so you can check both the calculation and the judgment it supports.
